Weekend trip to Prince Edward County

On one of the first week-ends of early spring we decided to break out from Toronto to see some refreshing countryside.
The main idea was to visit a sugar shack, something we as Europeans had heard a lots of about but never seen it really running. Prince Edward County gets a lot of positive feedback in the press these days. As convinced foodies (with a French background a must) we were sooo curious to see the wineries, cheese factories and other places of culinary interest. We arrived one week too late for the first great spring festival around the maple syrup production (mapleinthecounty.ca) but the site helped us enormously preparing our trip.
Ed Taylor in Picton was probably the last producer still having his oven on fire and we got a really passionate introduction in the maple syrup manufacturing process. We enjoyed all the time he took for us explaining everything in detail. And his syrup is just fabulous.
Our overnight stay at The Shieling in Consecon was showing up as another excellent choice. We rarely enjoyed such an excellent breakfast as in this beautyfully decorated country house.
