Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

No, no I don't wanna go out.

First persistant snow (we had the first flurries already on 21st of October).

Indian Wisdoms

On our trip to the Kawarthas we went to Petroglyphs Provincial Park. It has the largest collection of ancient First Nations petroglyphs (rock carvings) in Ontario. The carvings were created in the pre-Columbian era and represent aspects of First Nations mysticism, including shamans, animals, and the Great Spirit. A documentary center tells us about the beliefs and wisdoms of the native people living in this area. Please click here to go to a short collection of these texts.
You may find out more about Petroglyphs Provincial Park under the following link.

Excursion to the Kawarthas

Mid of October we had the chance to get a long week-end. Canada was celebrating Thanksgiving. We just headed North to the Kawartha Lakes region and towards Bancroft to admire the beautiful changing of leaves' colours.

Nuit Blanche

Last saturday night was "Nuit Blanche" in Toronto. One night entirely dedicated to promoting modern art of any kind and any expression. This idea has been brought up by the mayor of Paris in
2003 and has now spread to cities like Rome, Madrid and .... Toronto. It was an absolutely great moment to live with a city up on it's feet until the morning, gathering and wandering around to the artist's hot spots.
A bit unusual to my habits, I will moderate the links in the attached album. Modern art might be hard to understand, sometimes ... ;-)
( the comments are only shown in Picasa mode not in slideshow mode, click on the cross to opt out of the slideshow, thanks )
If interested, this video link gives a perfect idea of what "Nuit Blanche" is and features the 2007 highlights.

Week-end at Lake Erie

Last week-end seemed to be the last one before winter with camping-friendly temperatures, so we just threw our tent in the car and went south to the other big lake.... We were surprised by the relaxed and rural atmosphere, and we have now the ultimate address for fresh perch and pickerel.....

Kensington Market discoveries

One Saturday early September we managed to get up early to see Kensington Food Market in full activity. Some mediterranean Food Hall feeling in the heart of old "York".

Youssou n' Dour and Neneh Cherry on Dundas Square

Toronto International Film Festival is going on currently. These pictures were taken at the free concert Youssou n'Dour held at Dundas Square to promote his new film. His most famous song is "Seven Seconds" sung together with Neneh Cherry. What nobody expected got real, she joined him on scene for some moments. And then they promoted somebody else, his name beginning with O.... but listen yourself!

Mawing the lawn every week

The result of having had the most rain since the beginning of weather recordings:
You're up to battle with the wild lawn every week.
And don't forget: Neighborhood watches you!
